December wrap up
Well that sure was a fast month. I was so focused on racing and skiing that it really didn’t hit me that it was almost Christmas until yesterday while I was sitting on the airplane. It really was the first time since the beginning of December that I’ve had a chance to really turn off my brain.
This past month has been crazy, between success at home with a Bronze in Nakiska, to the disappointment in France when not a single Canadian Male qualified to the race saying it has been a bit of a rollercoaster would be an understatement. Cap it all off with a wild weekend of very hard racing in Italy and I am more than ready for a little break.
I am very pleased with my skiing, especially in Italy. I have shown this year when I’m in the heats I am going to battle every round to advance. I want to put myself in a position to win, and that means getting to the finals.
Innichen was a good weekend for me this year, but coming away from there after fighting so hard to make the finals both days and only come away with a bronze and a 4th place doesn’t leave me feeling satisfied. I know the skiing is there to get me into the medal round, but I need to preform better and maybe have a little luck to get higher up on the podium!
That said, I found a way to make the finals in 3 out of the first 4 races of the season. The debacle in France aside, I’ve made the finals in each race that I have qualified for this season, to me that is saying something.
All of this has put me in 3rd in the overall standings to start the year. I am feeling great about my skiing and I know that better results are coming! I accomplished my goal for the first block of the season and that was 2 podiums and getting the Olympic qualification out of the way.
Now its time to switch off for a week or so. I am really looking forward to some relaxation and time with family and friends. I’m hoping to get a few days of real skiing in over the break, and of course all the great food that goes along with the holiday season.
Ill be back home in Calgary on the 28th, hope to catch up with my friends and family! I have been loving the messages of support and congrats that have been coming in about making the Sochi team! Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to read this rather scattered blog, happy holidays!!
